Garden Totems bring a unique vitality to your backyard space. The clay we will be using is a high fire clay that can withstand freeze/thaw extremes so it can stay outside year round. We will work outdoors to create several textural shapes and pieces that will be fired and then brushed with an iron oxide to feature those textures. Faces, shapes, flat pieces, bowls, tubes, anything goes in a totem. You can restack them any way you want to give it a new look. Add in your own found pieces as well. Metal, antlers, driftwood, glass, metal. Top it with a finial, an orb, or return for a ceramic garden bird house/feeder class for something really special.
Clay is messy so you may want to bring an apron. We will be working over lunch time so please also feel free to pack a lunch, BYOB or whatever you like. The alpacas will be near us so you can take a break at any time to go visit them.

I have been working with clay off and on for over 40 years. Most of my experience has been in wheel thrown pottery, but I’ve recently been inspired with hand building. I’m not an expert but together I can assure you we will have fun and you’ll have pieces you can enjoy for years to come.
